Methodology

Girls’ LEAP programs use an original curriculum that combines physical self-defense skills with self-reflective activities. LEAP thoroughly integrates these two components to help girls develop the following seven competencies:

(1) identifying their feelings and strengths
(2) assessing situations
(3) decision-making in spite of fear
(4) verbal and physical boundary setting
(5) de-escalation
(6) physical self-defense techniques
(7) self-advocacy

These powerful tools help girls to make constructive choices in both everyday and potentially violent situations.

LEAP’s all-female teaching teams of professional facilitators, college-aged "Teaching Women" and Teen Mentors nurture each girl's courage and self-esteem.
