Program Overview

What programs does LEAP offer?

Standard Programs
Standard Girls' LEAP programs last 8-10 sessions and serve up to 25 girls. Each program is hosted by a partner community organization that provides facilities and recruits participants. LEAP also requests that a partner staff member participate with the girls. LEAP runs 20-25 standard programs per year in four program cycles – summer, fall, winter and spring.

Take a Stance Introductory Workshops
One-time introductory workshops last 2-3 hours. Participants learn basic escape skills, the foundations of self-defense, and participate in reflective activities focused around personal boundary setting and saying no. [LINK TO BECOME A COMMUNITYPARTNER?]

Mother/Daughter Programs
The mother/daughter program is designed for girls ages and their mothers (or a significant adult woman in their life- aunt, grandmother, or mentor) to participate together. A standard program is five sessions, and consists of physical skills, adult/child breakout sessions, and focused paired activities. The program aims to build communication and a shared language for discussions in a safe environment. LEAP also conducts one time mother/daughter workshops.

Teen Mentor Program
Since 2000, LEAP has offered a Teen Mentor Program that trains LEAP graduates as assistant teachers on LEAP programs for younger girls. This year, LEAP has developed the Teen Mentor Program into a year-round training and employment opportunity. In 2007, we will offer our first summer program for Teen Mentors that combines mentoring younger girls with outreach and multi-media presentations to the community on the issue of violence against women.
